Appalachian Miles for Smiles returned to Rogersville this week to partner again with Of One Accord Ministry to offer medical services to residents of the community.
The favorite service seems to always be dental, but in 2025, the dental services have to be postponed due to a cancellation of their dentist.
But making up for dentistry was several vital services for local residents. Over 50 patients received eye exams and were fitted for glasses. Hearing test were done for 20 people to receive hearing aids, Ballad Health provided mammograms, Dr. John Chapman provided Pulmonary and Health screenings. Pap smears and women’s health screenings were also offered.
Michelle Campbell, the director of AMFS explained after the event was over and the team ate, that Rogersville has become one of their favorite places to come each year and providers (doctors) and volunteers alike love to come to Rogersville. Of One Accord Ministry takes the responsibility to provide food from some of East Tennessee’s best restaurants which are located in Rogersville.
Campbell wanted to extend an apology to everyone who signed up for dental services.
AMFS was founded in 2016 by Frank Waldo, a successful Tri-Cities businessman who became aware of the disparity of medical services for dental, vision, hearing and women’s health among low income families in East Tn. Waldo was able to raise money to purchase trailers for dental and vision services and brought on a staff that recruited volunteer professionals for services.
AMFS has become one of the better medical services providers of free services and have been acclaimed across the country for their service to the people of Appalachia. In 2025, they have opened a permanent facility located 710 Sullivan Street across from Preaching Christ Church. Open weekdays, they offer different services on particular days of the week. More about their services and other upcoming events can be learned by visiting their website www.amfsmiles.net
