A certified USDA Summer Food Service Program
The Lunch Box buses are retired school buses that have been renovated into mobile cafeterias. During the summer months, The Lunch Box buses transport already prepared lunches, each week day in Rogersville and three days a week in Church Hill/Mt. Carmel, into various neighborhoods, where once parked, children & teens board the bus to eat a nutritious meal. The bus is chaperoned by a trained bus driver, volunteers from local youth groups, and other program staff.
Area youth groups are encouraged to volunteer on the bus to help:
- Serve lunches
- Clean up between sites
- Unload the bus at the end of the route
- Become a "friend" to children and teens who eat lunch on the bus
